At Sandy Beach Surfing’s Surf N’ Science Camp, we keep things small on purpose. Our groups are intimate, our days are full, and every surfer gets more than just a spot on the beach—they get noticed, guided, and remembered. We move as a crew, exploring different breaks, meeting sea creatures up close, and learning ocean safety along the way. From surfing and science to lighthouse climbs, helicopter tours, and ice cream socials, this is more than just surf camp—it’s an adventure designed by locals who grew up in the culture and care deeply about sharing it the right way. No loud crowds, no chaos. Just meaningful connection, real instruction, and salty memories that stick.

Surf N’ Science is a five-day, experience-based camp, not a single activity or hourly lesson. Campers spend a full week immersed in the ocean, hands-on learning, and local exploration — all thoughtfully planned, supervised, and supported from start to finish.
Each week includes:
We intentionally keep our groups small. While larger, high-volume camps can lower per-camper costs, they also reduce individual attention, flexibility, and overall experience. Keeping enrollment limited allows us to focus on quality, safety, and meaningful connections — both in and out of the water.
When broken down, the cost averages under $100 per day, covering instruction, equipment, transportation, site admissions, and the full program experience.
For comparison, a single one-hour private surf lesson typically costs around $60, without full-day supervision, equipment access, travel, or enrichment activities.
Activities and locations may vary based on weather, surf conditions, and logistics. Our priority is always to provide a safe, engaging, and meaningful experience for every surfer.
Surf N’ Science is designed for ages 8 and up.
That said, we’ve occasionally welcomed younger campers (ages 6–7) in past seasons when they’ve already participated in our program or demonstrated strong swimming skills, ocean awareness, and the ability to keep pace in a group setting.
Younger campers are most likely to be a good fit when:
Please note that Surf N’ Science does not include dedicated one-on-one beach supervision. Campers must be able to follow instructions, manage their equipment (carry their own surfboard), and participate safely within a group environment.
If you’re unsure whether your child is a good fit, we’re always happy to chat before registration opens.
Surf N’ Science is a group-based, active program designed for kids who are comfortable in dynamic beach and ocean environments. Your child is likely a good fit if they can:
For younger campers, prior experience with our programs or enrolling alongside an older sibling can be helpful in determining readiness.
If you’re unsure whether your child is ready, we’re always happy to talk it through before registration.
Yes! Families may choose from a few optional add-ons to enhance their Surf N’ Science experience. Add-ons are completely optional and can be selected during registration.
Photography Package
A professionally curated collection of camp photos, capturing surfing moments, science activities, and candid highlights from the week. A great way to relive the experience without worrying about photos during camp.
Helicopter Tour
A quick but unforgettable helicopter ride with a birds-eye view of the Space Coast. Campers — and interested family members — are welcome to join. Depending on conditions, you may spot cruise ships, marinas, the Banana River, NASA launch pads, and even dolphins or manatees. Includes flight and pilot gratuity. Subject to weather and scheduling.
SBS Rashguard
Campers may purchase an official SBS rashguard to keep, or choose to borrow one for the week as part of their camp gear.
Surf N’ Science is a mobile program, and campers travel to different locations throughout the week rather than meeting at the same beach each day. Daily drop-off and pick-up take place in Cocoa Beach, and all transportation during the day is included.
Our typical Surf N’ Science route includes:
Sebastian Inlet, Jetty Park, Playalinda Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and Ponce Inlet.
We also commonly include stops such as Canaveral Ice Cream & Coffee, the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse Museum, and the Marine Science Center.
These locations make up our normal route and are where we spend the vast majority of the week.
Because plans are guided by real-time ocean conditions, access, and safety considerations, daily locations may change, and we may not always be able to notify families in advance.
Our priority is always choosing the safest and most appropriate location for the group each day.
Yes. Surf N’ Science is a surf-forward program that blends ocean science with daily surfing and water time. Campers should arrive with a genuine interest in learning to surf and participating in ocean activities.
While science is an important part of the program, it’s designed to complement time in the water, not replace it. Campers who prefer land-based activities only, or who are not interested in surfing, may find the program is not the best fit.
A willingness to try, participate, and stay engaged in surf sessions helps keep the group experience positive for everyone.
Because Surf N’ Science explores so many unique spots along the Space Coast, family members sometimes enjoy joining us for specific moments or special activities.
That said, Surf N’ Science is first and foremost a camper-focused, group experience, and most of the day is designed for campers to participate independently with their peers.
When family members are present, campers are expected to remain engaged with the group and follow camp expectations.
Our goal is to keep the experience fun, connected, and positive for everyone — especially the kids.
We do not offer sibling or multi-week discounts.
Surf N’ Science is a small, limited-capacity program, and each spot represents a significant portion of the overall cost of running the week. Keeping pricing consistent across all registrations allows us to maintain small group sizes, include transportation and equipment, and deliver a high-quality experience for every camper — without raising base prices.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep the program sustainable and accessible.
Surf N’ Science has always been about creating a meaningful, high-quality experience rather than maximizing numbers.
Over time, we’ve learned that smaller groups allow campers to stay engaged, connected, and supported — especially as we move between locations and balance surf and science throughout the day.
While we’ve occasionally worked with larger groups in the past, we intentionally returned to a smaller group size because it best reflects what Surf N’ Science is about: thoughtful instruction, strong group dynamics, and an experience that feels personal and fun for everyone involved.
On an adventure with Cocoa Beach Helicopters, a thrilling experience started in 2024 that will be back by popular demand!
